Using Social Media

I use social media every day.  My use of social media has led me to different apps and has allowed me to connect with friends, family and express myself. I feel many people are the same way with social media. For example millions of people use twitter as well but is there a reason for what individual to post, share or like. So why does one post what they post is there a reason?
Pinterest, Twitter, and Facebook allows you to Like, Share or tweet what an individual thinks is interesting. Whether it’s sharing a quote, posting a picture of them drinking coffee. You get to see what that person likes and usually can relate to. What we don’t know is why did they share, like or post what they did. Does it relate to them in a certain way, does it mean something to them or does it say what the person wants to say.
Something that individuals don’t think about is when we see a picture of coffee. Like why post a cup of coffee. Is it that important? Is the coffee good? For me usually when I post a picture, or quote it usually reflects off of me and the current situation I’m in like for me twitter is where I vent because I’m able to share what I’m feeling without having someone asking me what’s wrong its where I can let everything out and be myself.
If we fully understood and became more aware of what were posting, would we put more time and effort and think more we finally post what we want others to see. Is it worth putting in effort in such an easy way?

What I've learned

BlackfishBlackfish was an eye opening and powerful film on Tilikum and SeaWorld. It is one of my favorite documetnaries I have seen. with each film I haven there has been a message which it is trying to get across whether its on how we should save water or captivity . I believe what Blackfish is a film that makes you think. It makes you think about where these animals came from, it makes you ask is this really right what SeaWorld is doing and all this time we have paid thousands of dollars to see these creatures put on a show for us. As a kid you don't think about where they came from you think that in a tank this is where I can find orca whales. since we have grown older you become wiser and learn the truth and for me I had no idea that the orcas we see are suffering in captivity and are treated poorly in a way they shouldn't. The film makes you want to become a voice and spread awareness that the orcas and all animals should be set free and that captivity truly scars them emotionally, mentally and sometimes physically. I myself have spread awareness and became a voice to try to empty the tanks and put the orcas and animals back to where they belong in the wild.

$eaWorld

"For man cannot give wild animals freedom, they can only take it away" Jacques-yves Cousteau. Just when you thought you knew Sea World, this film opens your eyes and you see the big picture. Blackfish is an emotional and moving documentary about the legendary orca Tilikum, The whale that was taken from his family and put into captivity to entertain paying customers, its really heart wrenching when you think about it. This documentary also reveals the center relationship with sea world and whale hunting going from the 1970s. When I watched this film I just kept asking how can people treat these animals so poorly and not think is this right? one of the most heart wrenching scenes in the movie is when one of the baby orcas gets taken away from her mom. You hear the mom make these sounds that know one heard before. she was trying to  see where her baby was and calling for her it was hard to watch.
After seeing this movie it makes me want to be an advocate or become a voice for these orca whales, and also animals that are held in captivity and prevent these animals that are free become captive. Since this movie I will not be going to zoos or SeaWorld if I am going to see animals it's going to  be in the wild where they belong!

Slacktivism

Slacktivism  is usually considered a pejorative term that describes "feel-good" measures, in support of an issue or social cause, that have little physical or practical effect, other than to make the person doing it feel satisfied that they have contributed. Slacktivism can be defined as the act of showing support for a cause but only truly being beneficial to the egos of people participating in this so-called activism. usually slacktivism requires minimal effort many websites like Pinterest, Twitter, and Facebook allows access to slactivists to Like, Share or tweet what an individual thinks is interesting. wether its sharing a quote, posting a picture of them drinking coffee. you get to see what  that person likes and usually can relate to. slactivism is seen in politics or in a cause that you think is important for example, organizations like 96 Elephants and the documentary they spread awareness on captivity of the orcas in Sea World since Blackfish came out in 2013 people have come together to spread awareness and have boycotted the theme park.  A reason why I would post or share what I share mainly on Twitter has to do with what is accurate of how I'm feeling or and letting people know without actually telling them myself.
